Meet CURB
Caribbean Umbrella Body for Restorative Behaviour (CURB) is the first and only Caribbean network of non-profit associations working to assist and support criminal offenders, ex-offenders, crime survivors, correctional officers and their respective families.
CURB is also involved in bringing to fruition the Turning of the Hearts (TOTH) Programme - a restorative model of aftercare which provides effective support for crime survivors, prisoners and ex-prisoners and their families.
In comparison with other strategies utilised worldwide for offender re-integration, mentoring offenders has been proven successful.
Studies in the UK and the USA have shown the positive impact that getting a mentor involved with an offender can have, in terms of reduction of offending, lowering of risk, and improving pro-social attitudes and behaviour.
CURB is therefore committed to encouraging the use of mentors with young and adult offenders as a means of helping to reduce offending. As part of this initiative, we provide a comprehensive mentoring programme for young offenders at the Youth Training Centre.
This Being Somebody programme commences while the young persons are detained and continues “beyond the gate” for a period of two years to guarantee their safe reintegration into free society.
